Innovation at the company is also reflected in the materials it uses. Ashley is a leader in producing furniture made from flame-resistant materials, using flame-retardant chemicals that are not harmful to human health, lead-free materials, and wood furniture free from formaldehyde, which research has linked to cancer.
Some of the materials used by Ashley Furniture include: Next-Gen Nuvella, a high-quality, solution-dyed material that offers excellent UV resistance and durability, making it suitable for high-traffic spaces. Certain covers made from this material can be removed, machine-washed and air-dried. Next-Gen Gaucho is made from 55% polyester and 45% PU (polyurethane), has an embossed texture, and features a finish treated with a water-repellent agent. Leather Match combines premium genuine leather on the areas most exposed to use with PVC (polyvinyl coating) on the outer sides of the armrests and back panels. This material retains the quality of premium genuine leather on seating surfaces and areas that come into contact with the body, while PVC is used instead of split hide on the back and sides. In terms of worldwide usage, it ranks second only to cotton. Chenille is a polyester fibre made by twisting together threads of different lengths. Each thread has a soft, fuzzy surface extending in all directions, giving the material depth and subtle variations in colour. Soft to the touch and slightly irregular in appearance, it is highly durable and effectively conceals dirt and stains. Tweed is also a polyester fibre, a plush polyester material with a twill weave that resembles wool and incorporates coloured slubbed yarns. It adds depth and variation in colour.
Ashley Furniture uses high-resilience foam cores, polyester fibre filling and a feather-blend option for its cushions and pillows. The foam cores are highly resilient (often around 1.8 density) and wrapped in layers of polyester fibre for added comfort. They resist lumping and indentation.
Products also incorporate polyester fibres, with foam wrapped in a soft layer of fibre for additional comfort, as well as memory foam for improved airflow and a more comfortable night’s sleep.
Sofas and beds also feature built-in charging connections for easy phone charging.
Ashley thoroughly tests its products in laboratories, with tests including, among others, textile abrasion and pilling resistance, flammability, foam testing, oscillatory wear, dynamic seam durability, wooden frame testing, tip-over stability, wood strength, fabric colourfastness, and tensile strength testing of spring-and-foam combinations.
The company uses state-of-the-art technologies to provide customers with a premium experience. Its technological solutions incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), and the Internet of Things (IoT), creating a more inspiring, personalised and interactive customer experience while simultaneously improving quality and efficiency in production.
