There is that fine moment in which December and January touch in passing…
Festive days bring their usual pace: lamps, dinner table, full glass and plans we make as though someone is going to look into them. But right then, it is worthwhile making a pause. Not to add the successes up, but to get connected with what really pleases us. Sometimes, it is a peace in our home where we finally manage to hear our own steps. Sometimes, it is a table at which there are people we love. Sometimes, it is a long journey …
A sometimes, among all the lights, another side of the holiday makes a silent flicker — the one when we feel the pain at the sight of an empty spot. The people who would say a word or two, who would make us laugh, who would embrace us in their own way. That sorrow is soft, almost invisible, but it is there. There is tenderness in it: proof that love never disappears; it only changes its form.
I am not going to wish you a typical Happy New Year — everybody will do that. Instead, I wish for the forthcoming period to be such that you feel one hundred percent well and yourselves. To allow yourselves to choose what pleases you, and not what is expected. At any rate, holidays have never been a competition, but a small exercise of joy.
In this dual issue of Caffe Montenegro we are taking you through winter rituals with the taste of journeys, warmth and a bit of luxury which is actually measurable through feelings and not through budget. We are bringing you the stories about the places which set you up at a slower rhythm — the one which opens a space for enjoyment. From winter escapisms by the seaside and to the mountains, through the restaurants which preserve tradition in modern forms, to the people who use their talents to create experiences which last longer than one night.
There are also some ideas for January — for the reset, for new experiences, for all those moments which need not be big to be important.
Let’s toast to everything that lies ahead of us, and to everything we are going to leave behind. And especially: to those things and those people who are not visible, but which/who we keep in our heart.
Enjoy this dual issue – it is also a transition from one year to another … Enjoy yourselves. Enjoy everything that comes your way.
It seems only yesterday — warm sand under our feet, its grains slipping through our fingers, like an hourglass. As if last year’s snow was yesterday. And we are standing here again, waiting for the new snowfall until the day we will again be walking barefoot on the sandy beach... The time… from the New Year to the New Year. The time we count with the help of the calendar… whereas in fact it lasts in every grain of sand, in every snowy moment, in every breath in between.
